Machine Learning in Computer Engineering Research

Abstract: Machine learning techniques have demonstrated indisputable effectiveness on many applications. In this presentation, he  will present some computer engineering research areas where machine learning has shown promising results. They range from visual understanding to computer architecture performance modeling. He will also present some future research directions if time permits.

Bio: Dr. Frank Liu is currently a Distinguished Research Scientist at Oak Ridge Research Lab. Prior to join ORNL, he was a Research Staff Member at IBM Research. His research activities span from machine learning, HPC, big data analysis, environmental modeling to VLSI design and VLSI CAD. He is the recipient/co-recipient of three IBM Research Accomplishment Awards and the IEEE Donald Pederson Best Paper Award. He is an Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M University and an IEEE Fellow.
