Sajjad Biyouki Honored for Establishing UT INFORMS Chapter

ISE graduate student Sajjad Amrollahi Biyouki was honored with the 2022 Judith Liebman Award at the 2022 INFORMS Annual Meeting on October 17 for his role in establishing a chapter of the organization at the University of Tennessee.

INFORMS, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, is the largest professional association for the decision and data sciences. Their mission is to advance and promote the science and technology of decision making to save lives, save money, and solve problems.

The Liebman Award recognizes volunteers who have made outstanding achievements within their student chapters. Biyouki started the process in August 2021 by collecting and submitting the required documentation. The chapter was officially established in March 2022.

“I proposed the foundation idea and encouraged the department to establish the student chapter to serve all students across the university, specifically industrial engineering and management students, and help progress their academic/industry career goals,” he said.

In their next first steps, the UT INFORMS chapter will launch a website and promote the organization to interested students throughout the university.

“We are organizing to travel to the 2022 INFORMS Annual Meeting together with other members, who will have presentations at that meeting,” said Biyouki. “For our future plans, we will organize to invite some keynote speakers in the field and launch some required-skills workshops for all interested students, especially graduate students.”

Students interested in joining INFORMS may learn more at their ISE department page.
